Your Path to Working Legally in Canada Starts Here

Canada offers one of the most attractive job markets in the world for international workers. Whether you’re a skilled professional, tradesperson, or temporary worker, a Work Permit is your gateway to launching a career in Canada. At Salgado Immigration Law, we provide end-to-end legal support for Work Permits Canada, including LMIA-based and open work permit applications.

What Is a Work Permit in Canada?

A Work Permit is an official document issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that allows foreign nationals to legally work in Canada for a specified employer, job role, and duration.

There are two main types of Work Permits in Canada:

🔹 Employer-Specific Work Permit

Issued to individuals with a valid job offer. This permit includes specific details such as:

  • Employer’s name
  • Job location
  • Duration of employment
Often requires a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to prove that hiring a foreign worker will not negatively affect the Canadian labor market.

🔹 Open Work Permit

Allows you to work for almost any employer in Canada (with a few restrictions). Commonly issued to:

  • Spouses of skilled workers or international students
  • Refugee claimants
  • Recent graduates eligible under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP)

What Is an LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment)?

An LMIA is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that proves there is a need for a foreign worker to fill a job and that no Canadian worker is available to do it.

Employers must submit an LMIA application and receive approval before hiring a foreign national. Once approved, the LMIA supports the foreign worker’s Work Permit application.

At Salgado Immigration Law, we help both employers and workers:

  • Prepare strong LMIA applications
  • Navigate compliance with Canadian labor laws
  • Handle all IRCC forms and requirements efficiently
