Eligibility Requirements for Canada’s Caregiver Program (2025)
Whether you’re applying under the Home Child Care Provider or Home Support Worker stream, you must meet the following criteria:
- Valid Job Offer from a Canadian family or licensed agency
- Post-Secondary Education: At least one year (Canadian or foreign equivalent)
- Language Proficiency: CLB 5 or higher in English or French (IELTS: 5.0+)
- Work Experience or Training:
- 6+ months of full-time caregiver training, or
- 12+ months of paid, relevant work experience
- Intent to Reside in Canada and work in caregiving roles
As of 2025, part-time work experience is now accepted if equivalent to one year full-time, and the list of eligible occupations has expanded to include personal care aides and respite workers.
